tbh I'm always a bit wary of buying the absolute newest flagship models right at launch, even on sale. I usually go for the entry-level ones because they're way friendlier on the wallet and honestly they're plenty for most people. I went through this last year and ended up with a base model that's been rock solid. If you want to stay well under that 1200 mark, here's how I see the lower tier stuff:

LG B4 55 inch OLED TV: This is basically the budget king. It's dimmer than the C4 but if you're in a dark room you wont even notice. Very reliable software too.

Samsung S85D 55 inch OLED: You get that punchy Samsung look for less. Cons are that the build quality feels a bit more plasticky than the LG, but the colors are decent for the price. I'd go with the LG if you want something that just works and has a better track record for longevity. Samsung is okay but I've seen more complaints about their quality control lately... just my two cents.

To add to the point above: the LG C series is always a safe bet, but definitely check out the Samsung S90D 55 inch QD-OLED. It uses QD-OLED tech which basically means colors pop way more in bright scenes compared to the standard WOLED panels. Honestly, if you can find it under 1200 bucks, it's a steal for the HDR performance alone. Just found this thread and figured id mention... dont forget about the Sony BRAVIA 8 55 inch OLED TV. Sony usually has better image processing for low-bitrate content like sports or older movies, tho they tend to stay a bit pricier. If you see a deep discount on that one, snag it. Couple quick tips to keep in mind:

check the HDMI 2.1 port count if you have multiple consoles

look at peak brightness (nits) if your room has windows

sony processing is king for movies, but lg/samsung are better for gaming

Honestly you're in a good spot for that budget. Black Friday is always the sweet spot for these. I've been rocking an OLED for a while now and the picture quality still blows me away every time I turn it on. If I were you, I'd keep a close eye on the LG C4 55 inch OLED TV. It's pretty much the gold standard for mid-range OLEDs and usually hits around $1100 or even lower when the sales kick in. Another solid choice is the Samsung S90D 55 inch OLED TV. I've got a buddy who picked up the previous version and he's beyond satisfied with the brightness levels on that panel. Both of these should definitely dip under $1200 once the Cyber Monday deals go live. Just keep refreshing those big box store pages starting the week before Thanksgiving... you wont regret it.
