I remember my first office job. Blowing my whole budget on Friday was a mistake because I saw the exact same stuff 20% cheaper on Monday. I was so mad lol. Heres what I learned over the years:

lots of big stores do price protection if the tag drops within a week or two

those cyber codes usually stack on top of the leftover Friday clearance prices

just put stuff in your cart on Friday and wait for the Monday morning blast I have tried many different strategies and honestly, that Friday rush is mostly hype to get you to spend before the real deep cuts happen. Its better to have more cash in your pocket for lunches than a slightly different shade of blue shirt. Just my two cents tho... congrats on the new gig! Seattle is gonna be awesome.

Found this thread while coffee-browsing and man, congrats on the first paycheck! I am absolutely obsessed with retail data points, so I actually love this question. When I started my tech career, I built a whole spreadsheet to track these cycles because I hate overpaying lol. Basically, you are looking at a trade-off between Inventory Depth and Discount Delta. Black Friday has the depth; Cyber Monday has the delta. For a wardrobe refresh, you cannot risk the Out of Stock notification on Monday for items you actually need to wear to work. Here is the data-backed strategy I used for my own $450 refresh:

Prioritize your A-Tier items on Friday morning. Popular sizes in the Everlane The Performance Chino Slim Fit will sell out by Saturday afternoon 90% of the time based on what I have seen.

Leverage volume pricing. I swear by the Charles Tyrwhitt Non-Iron Twill Shirt Regular Fit because their multi-buy logic (4 shirts for a flat rate) is fantastic for a professional baseline.

Account for the Seattle micro-climate. You will want a Patagonia Better Sweater 1/4 Zip Fleece Pullover for the office—it is a total staple here and the technical fleece holds up way better than cheap knits. If you see a 40% discount on Friday, just take it. Waiting for 50% on Monday is a gamble that usually results in Sold Out banners. Good luck with the new gig!

Congrats on the first paycheck! That is such an amazing feeling and I am so excited for you to start this new office job in Seattle! Honestly, for a $450 budget, you should definitely aim for Black Friday rather than waiting. While Monday sometimes sees an extra 5 or 10 percent off, the best stuff sells out instantly on Friday. You dont want to be left with weird colors or sizes that dont fit. I would look for staples like the Uniqlo Comfort 2-Button Jacket Slim Fit or some J.Crew Factory Slim-fit Flex Chino Cotton Blend. Friday is the sweet spot for selection and prices. Usually, the big retailers just keep the same sale running all weekend anyway. Grab your basics early so you can actually enjoy your weekend without stressing about stock levels! It is gonna be such a fantastic upgrade from the hoodie life!

I feel so silly asking this because I have literally never done this before but I really need help. I just got my first real paycheck and I'm planning to spend about $450 on a total wardrobe refresh for my new office job in Seattle. I'm so hyped to finally not wear hoodies every day lol!

But I'm staring at the 2026 calendar and I'm totally lost. Should I stay up late for the Black Friday deals or are the apparel discounts better on Cyber Monday? I dont want to buy a bunch of stuff Friday then see it way cheaper on Monday... is that a thing that happens? Or do things just sell out?
