Late to the party but... ^ This. Also, unfortunately, I have to share a bit of a cautionary tale regarding those massive German sets. I invested in a high-end Wusthof Classic 7-Piece Slim Knife Block Set a few years back during a Black Friday blitz. While the steel is decent, the full bolster design eventually became a massive headache for long-term maintenance. As the blade wears down, that thick metal guard near the handle prevents you from sharpening the heel properly, leaving you with a weird gap that wont touch the cutting board. Tbh it was pretty frustrating after spending that much cash. I actually had a much better experience with the Mercer Culinary Renaissance 6-Piece Forged Knife Block Set. The half-bolster design is way more practical for real-world sharpening and they feel just as solid as the bigger brands but for way less money. My quick tip for 2025: track the individual prices of open-stock knives now. Retailers sometimes swap in lower-quality 'special' sets for Black Friday that look identical to the premium lines but use cheaper materials.

Hey there! A lot of good points about brands and buying strategies already! But something I've learned over the years, especially when investing in a quality set, is the massive value of DIY maintenance. Seriously, picking up a decent sharpening system (even just a good whetstone or a reliable pull-through for quick touch-ups) can save you a ton on professional sharpening down the line. Plus, it makes your knives last so much longer and perform better day-to-day. Think about factoring that into your 2025 budget too; it's a real game-changer! Hope that helps!

Oh, hey everyone! Lots of great advice already about brands and sharpening, which is super important long-term. Building on that, and having gone through a few knife cycles over the decades myself, I've realized something key about those big sets vs. individual buys, especially with an eye on 2025 sales.

Honestly, a full 6-8 piece set *looks* awesome in the block, right? But from a long-term ownership perspective, I've found you really only consistently use 3-4 of them (chef's, paring, maybe a utility or bread knife). The rest often sit there, taking up space, and tbh, they're sometimes filler knives in sets.

So, for BF/CM 2025, instead of chasing the "biggest set discount," I'd actually lean towards a hybrid approach. Maybe snag a really high-quality 2-3 piece starter set (Wüsthof Classic or Victorinox Fibrox are decent options if you can find them discounted) that covers your core needs. Then, over time, you can add specific, specialized knives you *actually* realize you need, like a good boning knife or a specific Japanese blade, when they go on sale. That way, every knife you own is a workhorse you love, rather than just part of a collection. You might spend a bit more per knife initially, but you save money by not buying things you won't use. Hope that perspective helps with your planning!

Hey! Planning way ahead for 2025 is actually super smart for big purchases like a quality knife set. You're definitely looking at the right tier of brands with Wüsthof, Shun, and Victorinox Fibrox; those are industry staples for good reason.

Now, regarding BF/CM sales, here's where I'd suggest being a bit cautious. While you'll absolutely see deals on these brands, especially the larger sets, you really want to make sure you're getting a *useful* set, not just a *discounted* one. From a professional standpoint, many pre-packaged 6-8 piece sets often include knives you might rarely use. I would suggest you identify your absolute core needs first – typically a solid chef's knife (or santoku), a utility knife, and a paring knife. Focus your research on those specific blade types within your chosen brands.

For example, the Victorinox Fibrox line, while perhaps not as "premium" in aesthetics, is a workhorse. It's NSF certified, has excellent edge retention for its price point, and is incredibly reliable – often overlooked in favor of flashier deals. When sales hit, be careful not to get swayed purely by the percentage off. Verify the specific models included in any bundled set. Check their steel type, blade geometry, and user reviews on edge durability. Honestly, investing in fewer, high-quality, *essential* knives that fit your hand and intended use is often a safer and more reliable long-term strategy than grabbing a big set with some 'filler' knives. Hope this gives you a different angle to consider!

My current knife collection is a mismatched mess, and I'm really hoping to invest in a quality knife set during those sales. I'm specifically looking for a good 6-8 piece set, perhaps from brands like Wüsthof, Shun, or even a durable Victorinox Fibrox professional line. Since I'm not in a rush, I'm trying to plan far out to get the best possible deal on a mid-to-high range set. Based on past trends, what are your thoughts on which brands or types of knife sets usually see the best discounts during BF/CM, and how can I best prepare to snag a great deal for 2025?
