ive been building my own rigs since the core 2 quad days so im not exactly a newbie here but im honestly stumped with the current cpu roadmap. i currently have a ryzen 5900x that i use for heavy 4k editing and color grading in davinci resolve but lately its starting to chug when i have too many layers of 10-bit footage going on. usually id just grab the latest flagship and call it a day but the current landscape feels so weirdly transitional right now.

my logic was that if i wait until black friday 2026 i could catch the tail end of the next big architecture shift. intel is trying to fix their mess with arrow lake and whatever comes after and amd is just kind of iterating with zen 5 at the moment. if i hold out until late 2026 am i gonna be looking at zen 6 or something actually ground breaking? i keep seeing rumors about ddr6 maybe being on the horizon around then too and i really dont want to build a high-end system now just for it to be obsolete in 18 months because of a new socket or ram standard.

so i was thinking... is it worth struggling with my current setup for another two years to get a massive performance jump then? i have a budget of about $800 set aside just for the chip and i live near a micro center so i usually get decent bundles but i hate the idea of buying into a dead-end platform. i do a lot of work for clients in the seattle area and time is money but if the 2026 chips are expected to be that much better for multicore stuff it might be worth the wait.

plus i keep hearing that prices might actually stabilize by then if the whole ai craze cools down a bit on the consumer side. but then again two years is a long time to deal with stuttering playback. am i overthinking the cycle or is 2026 actually the year to go all-in on a flagship build?

Honestly I am just so fed up with my current setup and the way the market is going right now. I’m still rocking this 3070 and it’s starting to struggle with literally everything I try to play at 1440p lately. I was trying to play some Alan Wake 2 and the stuttering was just driving me crazy, it feels like I paid a premium for something that’s already falling apart. So I was thinking, okay, I’ll just hold out for the 50-series because surely they’ll have to fix the VRAM issues and the pricing right? But then I started looking at the timeline and my logic was that if the 5080 or 5070 drops in early 2025, by the time Black Friday 2026 rolls around, they should be seeing some actual, real discounts. Not those fake 20 dollar off coupons but like a solid 20-30% drop.

But I’m honestly so pessimistic about it because Nvidia just seems to love keeping prices inflated forever now. I’m planning this big rebuild for late 2026 because that’s when I’m hoping GTA VI finally makes it to PC and I want to be ready, but I’ve only got about 750 bucks set aside for the GPU specifically and I live in a state where sales tax is basically a robbery. I’ve been burned before waiting for sales that never happen. Like, I remember waiting for the 40-series to drop in price and they just... didnt? They just stayed expensive until they were replaced.

Is late 2026 too soon for a real sale on a card that would only be a year and a half old? It feels like we used to get better deals back in the day but now with all the AI hype I’m worried they wont care about the gaming market at all anymore. Do you think they’ll actually have stock to clear out by then or am I just setting myself up for more disappointment? I really dont want to have to settle for another mid-tier card that’s gonna be obsolete in two years but I cant afford 1500 for a flagship...

I've been building rigs since the DDR3 days so I'm not a total noob but looking ahead at the 2026 roadmap has me kind of stumped with where Intel and AMD are headed. I usually do a full refresh every 4 years and my current AM4 rig is finally starting to chug during 14404p video editing.

I'm trying to budget around $300 for the chip specifically. By then I'm guessing the Ryzen 9000 series will be the old reliable mid-range pick or maybe Intel finally figures out their power draw issues? It feels like the price-to-performance curve is getting weirdly flat lately...

Im trying to plan out this massive workstation build for my media thesis that starts in early 2027 so I really need to snag the core parts during the Black Friday 2026 sales to stay under my $3k budget. Ive been doing some digging into the leaked roadmaps for Intels Nova Lake and some people on those hardware subreddits are saying those will be the main ones to watch but then I saw a rumor that AMD Zen 6 might be delayed or super expensive at launch which has me kinda panicking.

I dont want to buy into a platform thats about to be obsolete right when the sales hit. I read on a tech blog that usually the previous years flagships get the deepest cuts-like 30 or 40 percent off-but then someone else said that for 2026 specifically manufacturers might hold prices high because of some supply chain shift theyre predicting. I really need something that can handle heavy 8K rendering and Im hoping to keep the CPU cost under $450 if possible.

Do you think the 2025 high-end models will be the ones with the massive discounts or are we looking at mid-range 2026 stuff being the better deal? Which specific CPU models should I be tracking for the best Black Friday 2026 discounts?

I am so sick of my current rig lagging every time I open more than two tabs while trying to play anything modern. My i5 from years ago is basically a paperweight at this point and Ive been trying to hold out for the big sales next year but man, the leaks are just making my head spin. Ive been digging through some tech blogs and one site says the Zen 6 chips are gonna be the mid-range king for late 2026 but then I see another thread saying Intel is gonna aggressively price their 16th gen stuff to claw back market share after all their recent stability drama.

Its frustrating because Ive got about $350 set aside specifically for a processor and I need it to last me at least four or five years like my last one did. Im mostly doing 1440p gaming and some light video editing for my kids soccer games so I dont need a Threadripper or anything crazy but I dont want to buy something thats obsolete in six months either. I read that the AM5 socket might be reaching its limit by the time we hit the 2026 holiday season which makes me nervous about buying into it now even if the deals look good on paper. Like whats the point of a Cyber Monday deal if the motherboard is a dead end and I cant upgrade again without replacing everything?

Then you have the whole power consumption mess. Some of these mid-range chips are drawing way more than they should and I really dont want to have to buy a new 1000W PSU just to run a freaking i5 equivalent. I am just looking for that sweet spot where I get the most bang for my buck in November. Does anyone actually have a clue what the landscape is gonna look like for the mid-tier stuff by then? Are we expecting actual $100 price drops on the newest 2026 chips or is it just gonna be old 2025 stock they're trying to dump on us...

Is it actually worth getting a mid-range AMD card right now for the holiday sales or am I just throwing my money away on something that wont even work right? I've been staring at these shopping websites for three hours and my head is honestly spinning with all these numbers like the 8000 series or whatever they are called now and I have no clue what any of it means. I just want to play games without the screen freezing every five seconds. My current computer is basically a brick at this point and I saved up exactly 420 dollars specifically for a new video card thing but every time I look at a review people are screaming at each other about drivers and ray tracing and I dont even know what a ray trace is.

Why is this whole process so complicated for no reason? I just want to buy a part that fits and will let me play for a few years without needing another upgrade. I live in a really small town in the middle of nowhere so I have to order everything off the internet and I am terrified of getting the wrong thing and having to ship it back because that sounds like a total nightmare. My friend tells me AMD is the best value for my budget but then I read these forum posts where people say the software is buggy which sounds super intimidating because I barely know how to turn the thing on let alone fix a computer bug.

It is almost the end of 2026 and I see all these holiday sales starting to pop up but I cant tell if these are actually good prices or if they are just trying to get rid of old junk. I really want to be able to play the new space RPG that came out last month and maybe some Fortnite with my younger brothers on the weekend. Is the mid-range stuff actually going to hold up or should I just give up on the PC dream and buy a Playstation even though I really wanted a computer for school too? I just dont want to waste the money I spent six months saving up from my job at the grocery store...
