To add to the point above: waiting for deep discounts on high-end NVIDIA silicon is usually a gamble that doesnt pay off. They have gotten really good at managing supply to prevent price crashes even when cards have been out for a while. A few technical reasons why late 2026 might not be the clearance sale you are hoping for:

Production cycles: By late 2026, the Blackwell architecture will likely be getting a Super refresh. Instead of discounting the base NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 16GB, they usually just phase it out for a slightly faster version at the same MSRP.

Component costs: The transition to GDDR7 memory and more complex power delivery systems makes these cards expensive to build. Profit margins on the 80 and 90 series are high, but they wont slash them just for the sake of it.

Market tiering: The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 32GB is expected to be in its own enthusiast price bracket, likely near 2000 dollars. Even a massive Black Friday discount wouldnt bring that down to your 1200 dollar budget. Tbh if you have the cash now, a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 Super 16GB is a beast for 4K. But if you can hold out for the 50-series launch, just buy the 5080 as soon as it hits MSRP. Waiting an extra year for a holiday deal that might only save you 50 bucks means you are stuck with 3060 performance for way longer than necessary.

Man I am finally getting ready to pull the trigger on a major upgrade for my rig and Im honestly so hyped to finally play stuff in 4K without it looking like a slideshow. I have been saving up like crazy and got about $1200 put aside just for the card itself but now Im totally stuck on the timing. Im basically torn between just grabbing a 4080 Super now since prices are finally starting to settle or holding out for the 5080 when it eventually drops next year.

But then I started thinking about the long game lol. I usually keep my cards for like 5 years so I want the absolute best value possible for the money. If I wait all the way until the 2026 holidays do you think we will actually see those big price cuts on the 50-series? Like itll have been out for a while by then so maybe a 5090 or a high end 5080 might actually hit a decent price point for Black Friday 2026? I know NVIDIA is usually super stingy with discounts especially on the high end stuff but I am really hoping to snag a flagship for way under my budget if I just stay patient and keep using my crusty old 3060 for another year and a half. Or am I just dreaming and they gonna stay full price even then?
