Should I wait for 2026 Black Friday to buy a flagship GPU?

So I'm sitting here looking at my aging 3080 and its definitely feeling the heat lately with the 8K RAW files I'm dealing with at my editing studio here in Austin. I've been doing some digging and I keep seeing people say the 5090 is dropping early next year which is cool but then I saw some random leak on a forum saying the 60 series might actually hit late 2026. Now I'm totally stuck. Like do I grab a 5090 as soon as it drops or do I hold out for the 2026 Black Friday sales to see if the next big thing is out or if the 5090 gets a massive price cut?

I'm really trying to be smart with my cash since I've got about $2200 saved up just for the GPU but I dont want to buy something and have it be old news three months later. My setup is mostly for work but I do a lot of VR racing on the weekends so I need top tier performance.

Here is what I'm looking for:

  • 24GB VRAM minimum for the video renders
  • Something that wont require me to buy a massive new case
  • Reliability for a 5 year lifecycle
  • Good cooling because it gets hot in my office

Is waiting another two years for a Black Friday deal actually worth it or am I just overthinking the tech cycle? I feel like by the time 2026 rolls around there will just be something else to wait for... maybe I should just pull the trigger sooner?

Seriously, dont wait until 2026! Grab the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 32GB when it drops. You need that power now!!

  • 32GB VRAM is king
  • Renders will fly Just do it!

> Regarding what #1 said about "Seriously, dont wait until 2026! Grab the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 32GB when it drops..." I totally agree with that energy!! Waiting two years for a hypothetical Black Friday deal while you're fighting 8K RAW files today sounds like absolute torture lol. I remember when I was struggling with 4K exports on my old setup and every crash felt like a personal insult. When I finally jumped to the ASUS ROG Strix GeForce RTX 4090 24GB GDDR6X, my render times basically evaporated. It was amazing and I felt so much more productive! If the upcoming 5090 ends up being a literal brick, maybe look at something like the MSI GeForce RTX 4090 SUPRIM Liquid X 24GB since that AIO cooler is fantastic for keeping temps low in smaller cases. Dont wait for 2026 tho, youll waste so much time staring at progress bars... Grab the flagship next year and just love the speed!
