My current fridge is literally driving me insane right now. It makes this high-pitched whining sound all night and I think the compressor is finally giving out on me, I’ve already had to toss a whole gallon of milk because it wasnt cold enough this morning. Its an old Samsung and I just dont think its worth repairing again after the last time cost me 300 bucks and it barely fixed the issue. I’m trying to hold out because my budget is strictly under 1800 and I really want one of those fancy French door models but honestly I’m so anxious that its gonna die completely in like two weeks and then I’ll be stuck paying full price at a store just to have something to keep my food from rotting. We're in the middle of a kitchen refresh here in the Midwest and everything is already so expensive. I keep hearing mixed things about whether the 2026 Black Friday sales are actually going to be any good or if companies just hike the prices up in October anyway just to discount them back to normal. Is it worth the stress of nursing this thing along for another few months just to save maybe a couple hundred bucks or should I just bite the bullet now? Are those 2026 Black Friday appliance deals actually worth the wait?

Just saw this. I tracked price cycles during my renovation; the voltage spikes from failing compressors aren't worth the risk.

  • Whirlpool WRF535SWHZ 25.2 Cu. Ft. French Door
  • Frigidaire Gallery GRFG2353AF 23.3 Cu. Ft.

Honestly, waiting for 2026 Black Friday is risky when your compressor is already whining. Over the years, I've seen Labor Day sales hit the same 30% discount floor.

  • Look at GE GNE27JYMFS 27.0 Cu. Ft. French Door Refrigerator for its internal water dispenser.
  • The LG LRFCS25D3S 25 cu. ft. French Door Refrigerator has a solid linear compressor. Tbh, food spoilage costs way more than the $100 you're gonna save by waiting.

Like someone mentioned, waiting is a huge gamble when your food is already spoiling. Ive spent way too much time tracking these price cycles and honestly, sometimes they just mark stuff up in october anyway.

  • what are the exact dimensions of your cutout?
  • do you prefer the ice maker in the door or the freezer?

If you can hear that compressor whining, the mechanical failure is already in progress. Tbh, Black Friday deals are often just lower-tier SKUs with cheaper components anyway. You're usually better off looking for a mid-tier unit with better technical specs during a standard weekend sale. Comparing brands, you're coming from a Samsung which has known issues with the sealed system and ice makers. If you want something more robust, KitchenAid KRFC300ESS is a solid neutral option with much better build quality in the drawers and hinges. If you can stretch the budget slightly or find an open-box deal, Bosch 800 Series B36CT80SNS is technically superior because of the dual compressors. It keeps humidity levels way more stable than the single-evaporator systems found in cheaper models. Quick question tho, what are the exact dimensions you're working with? Specifically, do you need a counter-depth model for that kitchen refresh or do you have room for a full-size unit? That really narrows down what you can actually get for under 1800.
