i'm trying to build my first pc for gaming here in chicago and honestly my brain is melting with all these numbers. i have about 500 bucks saved up for a cpu and im waiting until black friday 2026 to get a deal but i dont even know what to look for. sorry if this is a dumb question but like does the price drop more on the brand new stuff or the ones that came out a year ago? my logic was that the older ryzen things would be dirt cheap by then but then i read online that they just disappear from stores. i just want to play games without my computer sounding like a jet engine and i cant tell which ones are actually gonna be a steal...

Waiting until 2026 is honestly such a smart move! I love the patience shown here. Based on my experience, the biggest discounts always hit hardware thats exactly one generation old. You get amazing stability because the bios updates and drivers are all finished by then!

  • The AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D 8-Core 5.2GHz Socket AM5 is gonna be your best bet for a silent, cool-running rig. It's an incredible piece of tech.
  • If you prefer Intel, the Intel Core i7-15700K 20-Core LGA 1851 will likely be at a massive discount by late 2026.
  • Focus on parts that have been out for at least 12 months. Theyre way more reliable than launch-day hardware. Youre gonna have a fantastic time building this! Stick to these proven performers and your pc wont sound like a jet at all... just make sure to get a good cooler too.

  • Saw this earlier but just now responding. In my experience, the deepest discounts in late 2026 will likely target the chips that are top-tier now but will be technically outdated by then. You want the high-end SKUs from the generation that just got replaced because retailers hate sitting on old high-margin inventory. Keep an eye on the AMD Ryzen 9 9900X 12-Core 24-Thread or the Intel Core Ultra 7 265K 20-Core. Since you are in Chicago, those Micro Center deals will be your best friend. Few things I've noticed over the years:
  • X3D chips stay expensive because demand stays high for years
  • The real steal is usually a CPU and motherboard bundle
  • Lower TDP chips are easier to keep quiet without a massive cooler High-end silicon from two years prior is basically the golden ratio for price-to-performance. Just dont wait too long or they actually do get delisted like you feared... tbh 2026 is a long way off so keep an eye on socket compatibility too.

honestly, planning for 2026 is tough because current market trends are pretty disappointing. unfortunately, those huge clearance drops dont happen like they used to. i think brands are just getting tighter with inventory and yields now.

  • mid-tier skus usually see better cuts than high-end silicon
  • older nodes get phased out way faster than i prefer not sure, but iirc, the real savings are usually on dead sockets anyway.
