so im currently rocking a gtx 1660 and its starting to struggle with the newer titles i play at 1440p. my logic was that i should maybe hold out for a massive sale to get the best bang for my buck but then i realized black friday 2026 is still forever away. i read online that nvidia might release the 50 series soon but some people on reddit say the mid-range prices are just gonna stay high regardless of new launches.

im sitting on about 450 bucks right now and i really want a card that lasts. does it make sense to wait nearly two years just to save maybe fifty or a hundred dollars? or is the hardware jump in 2026 gonna be that much better? kinda stuck here...

Like someone mentioned, waiting is pointless. I disagree on those specs. Consider these:

  • AMD Radeon RX 7700 XT 12GB GDDR6 for raster
  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 16GB GDDR6 for DLSS

Waiting until late 2026 is honestly a bit wild, especially since that 1660 is already struggling. In my experience, sitting on your hands for two years just to save fifty bucks isnt the move. Technology moves way too fast to wait that long.

  • AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT 16GB GDDR6
  • AMD Radeon RX 7700 XT 12GB GDDR6
  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 16GB GDDR6 Over the years, Ive realized the best time to upgrade is simply when your gear stops performing for the games you love. Mid-range prices might stay high regardless of launches, but youll get way more value out of using a new card for the next two years than you would by saving a tiny bit of cash way down the line. Life is too short to play with laggy frames, just go for it.

Like someone mentioned, waiting is totally unnecessary! I love the idea of upgrading now to ensure your setup stays reliable. To keep things safe, here is why you shouldnt wait:

  • VRAM needs for 1440p are rising fast.
  • Current power efficiency is already amazing! The AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT 16GB GDDR6 is a fantastic, safe bet for stability! Its gonna be such a reliable choice for 1440p.
