So I finally saved up enough money to build a computer and my friend told me I should wait until the 2026 Black Friday sales to buy the graphics card because that is when prices drop the most. I really want to play games in 4K on my big TV in the living room because the regular console I have looks okay but I want it to look really crisp and nice like in the videos I see online. But honestly I have no idea what I'm looking for or what any of the numbers mean. I was looking at some websites and they list all these numbers like 5080 or 9900 something and it is just super confusing for me and I feel kinda dumb trying to figure it out.
I have about $2,000 saved up for the whole build and I live in Florida so I can go to a Best Buy or order online but I dont want to waste my money on something that wont even work for 4K. Is there like a specific card that usually goes on sale that is good for this? I keep hearing people talk about VRAM and stuff but I dont know if that matters for 4K or if its just for people who do professional video editing or whatever.
I'm sorry if this is like a really basic question but I'm just so lost with all the different options and I dont want to miss the deals...
> Is $700 or $800 enough for just the GPU part to get 4K? I remember struggling with my first build, but I'm satisfied with my AMD Radeon RX 8800 XT 16GB now. It works well. What refresh rate is your TV?
> Is $700 or $800 enough for just the GPU part to get 4K? Regarding what #2 said about that budget, unfortunately $800 is getting harder to recommend for smooth 4K. I had issues with mid-range cards stuttering lately, which sucks. Tbh, aim for the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 5070 Ti 16GB if it hits $750. Its a solid beginner choice because the cooling is great, so you wont fry anything... just check your case size first.
Good to know!
I once used a cheap power supply and it fried my first 4K build, so be careful. For 4K gaming, VRAM definitely matters tho and you should consider the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 16GB GDDR7 if it hits $800. Make sure to get a reliable PSU like the Corsair RM850x 850W Gold so you dont risk your hardware. TL;DR: Aim for a 5080 on sale but dont skimp on the power supply.
