Ive been building RDNA rigs since the first gen launched and usually have my pick picked out months before the holidays but this year is weird. The 8000 series mid-range is all over the place with the TBP numbers and I cant tell if the 8700 XT is actually a better deal than a clearance 7900 GRE. I'm trying to get a 1440p build ready for my kids dorm room and I have about 450 bucks to drop on the card. Usually I just grab the best price-to-perf leader but the ray tracing gains on the new architecture are making me second guess the old flagship sales. Which AMD Radeon GPU offers the best value for 2026 Cyber Monday?

Like someone mentioned, the pricing is all over the place. Taking a gamble on the ASRock Phantom Gaming AMD Radeon RX 8700 XT 16GB last month for a sim-racing build left me pretty let down. The ray tracing gains are definitely there on paper, but in actual gameplay, it just didnt feel like a massive leap. Micro-stuttering issues drove me crazy too. For a kids dorm rig where they just want stuff to work, Id suggest looking for a Sapphire Pure AMD Radeon RX 7900 GRE 16GB GDDR6 on clearance. They were hitting 430 bucks yesterday. That raw raster performance is just more reliable for 1440p, especially in titles that dont even use RT. The 256-bit bus on the older card really helps when things get intense... its a way better use of that budget imo.

Honestly, im disappointed with the efficiency numbers on the newer architecture. I agree that the mid-range value is total chaos this cycle; the pricing brackets make no sense. Unfortunately, i had issues with driver stability on my test rigs and the performance per dollar isnt as good as expected compared to those older flagship clearance deals.
- TBP is way too high
- Ray tracing gains feel marginal Its a letdown for 1440p builders.
