so i've been eyeing the ultraboost light vs the dna 5.0 for my morning jogs around hyde park and i cant decide if i should pull the trigger now or hold out for black friday 2026. i know that sounds ages away but i'm on a super tight budget—trying to stay under £90—and my current nikes are literally falling apart. my logic was that by 2026 the current models will be dirt cheap but maybe adidas stops discounting the good colors? i'm torn between getting a mid-tier pair now or just suffering through with my old shoes to get the top shelf stuff later. do you guys think the deep 50% cuts will still be a thing then?

Honestly, waiting until 2026 is a recipe for disappointment. I tried that strategy back in 2021, and by the time the deep discounts hit, all that was left were the neon orange colorways in size 14. Plus, ive been really let down by the recent longevity of the foam. I picked up the Adidas Ultraboost Light Core Black 10mg/cm3 Foam last year, expecting that density reduction to feel like clouds, but the midsole felt dead after just 300 miles. Not nearly as responsive as the older pellets... If youre on a £90 budget, dont suffer in falling-apart Nikes for two years. Here is what I would do instead:

  • Scour the Adidas outlet site right now for the Adidas Ultraboost DNA 5.0 Primeblue Knit because it often hits £85 during mid-season clears.
  • Check out the Adidas Adizero Boston 12 Lightstrike Pro Carbon Plate since that foam holds its energy return way better than standard Boost.
  • Look for the Adidas Solarglide 6 LEP 2.0 Stability if you just need a daily Hyde Park workhorse under £70. It sucks that the prices keep climbing while the Continental rubber outsoles seem to be getting thinner. Waiting two years for a tech shoe is basically buying obsolete tech. The glue gets brittle if they sit in a warehouse that long anyway, so you might end up with the soles peeling off within a month. Totally not worth the wait tbh.

To add to the point above, waiting until 2026 is a bad idea.

  • Adidas Duramo Speed Lightstrike lacks bounce.
  • Adidas Response Runner Mesh feels way too stiff. Both were pretty disappointing substitutes.

Waiting until 2026 is a massive gamble, honestly. Performance foam actually degrades over time even if its just sitting in a box, so 'new' old stock might feel dead by then. I would suggest grabbing something current that supports your feet now:

  • Adidas Supernova Rise Dreamstrike+ Foam
  • Adidas Adizero SL Training Shoes Both are often under £80 online. Be careful with those old Nikes tho; worn out midsoles cause real injuries.

Totally agree with the others that waiting two years is a gamble. In my experience, those massive 50% off deals you're hoping for are becoming way less common as companies tighten up their inventory. I've tried many different brands over the years—shifting between Adidas and the big American labels—and honestly, the deep discounts usually only hit the weirdest colors that nobody wants anyway. I'm not 100% sure but I think I heard some chatter about the tech in these midsoles changing completely by then. Not sure if it's true, but if they do swap out the materials, the current ones might actually get harder to find rather than cheaper. If you're on a tight budget, sometimes looking at what other brands are clearing out right now is a way safer bet than banking on a sale that far out. IIRC the whole industry discount cycle has changed a lot lately, so dont count on those 2026 prices being what you expect tho.
