I gotta get my winter gear sorted for a Chicago trip in Dec and only have $500 to spend. I saw some blogs saying early Nov sales are basically just clearing old junk while actual BF has the real deals but then others say the good stuff sells out by Friday so now im super stressed. Are the early sales actually better or should I wait?
> Re: "Honestly, after years of hunting for gear, in..." Consensus is buy now to keep your sizes. Im satisfied layering Under Armour ColdGear Crew for warmth over 32 Degrees Heat Thermal for price. That setup worked perfectly during my last trip.
Buy early!!! Tbh, waiting for the actual day is a huge gamble because all the reliable sizes vanish instantly and you need solid gear for Chicago! I absolutely love my Columbia Men's Whirlibird IV Waterproof 3-in-1 Jacket for warmth. Its amazing and usually hits early sales for around $160! Buying now is a much safer bet so you dont end up with zero options and a frozen face!
Honestly, after years of hunting for gear, in my experience waiting for the actual Friday is usually a mistake. You might save an extra five percent, but by then you're stuck with XXXL or neon green because the common sizes are gone. I've tried many different setups for the Midwest cold, and early sales are definitely where the real value is for technical stuff. You dont want to be stuck with old junk when it's sub-zero in Chicago. Focus on high-quality insulation and wind protection:
Late to the party but this whole thread is 💯. Glad I found it.
