How much of a price drop can we actually expect for high-end chips like the Ryzen 9 or Core i9 stuff during Black Friday 2026?
Ive been building PCs since the DDR3 days so Im not exactly new to the game but the way pricing has been going lately is just driving me insane. Im currently stuck on an aging setup in my home office in Seattle and I really need to upgrade for some heavy 8K video editing and 3D rendering for a freelance gig I've got starting in early 2027. Usually Id say just wait for the sales but with the way supply chains have been and those fake discounts retailers do where they hike the price in October just to drop it in November... its getting harder to predict anything.
Im looking at a budget of about $500 to $600 for the CPU alone and I really want to snag a flagship without getting ripped off. Is it even worth waiting another year plus for the 2026 cycle? My current rig is starting to thermal throttle under load even with a fresh repaste and a 360mm AIO so Im getting pretty desperate to pull the trigger but I dont want to buy now if the 2026 drops are gonna be massive. I've seen some rumors about the next-gen architecture being a huge leap but man the wait is killing me...
Been thinking about this for a few hours since you posted. Honestly, looking all the way ahead to 2026 is a bit of a gamble because of how Intel and AMD are staggering their releases lately. I've been in this game since the old Athlon days and I've seen the Black Friday hype cycle change a ton. Usually, that $500 to $600 sweet spot for a flagship CPU doesnt happen for the brand new stuff... you're mostly looking at the previous year's top-tier chips on clearance. I went through a similar struggle a few years back trying to hold out for a price drop while my render times were killing my soul. Here is what I usually look for when I'm trying to stretch a budget:
To add to the point above: I was very satisfied when I upgraded to the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X 16-Core 32-Thread for my 8K workflows. It works well and handles multithreaded loads with no complaints. Honestly, waiting until 2026 for a flagship like the Intel Core i9-14900K 24-Core 6.0GHz just to save a few bucks isnt logical if your current rig is failing. Better to have a stable machine now for your freelance gigs.
Big if true
