Will Intel or AMD have better Black Friday 2026 CPU deals?

Ive been building rigs since the DDR3 days but Im trying to plan way ahead for a major overhaul in late 2026 and Im honestly torn. Usually Id just snap up whatever Ryzen is top tier but with Intels new socket stuff finally settling in by then its a total toss up. Im looking to drop about $500 max on the chip for heavy 4K rendering and some sim racing on the side.

  • Need solid multi-core for DaVinci
  • Something that doesnt run at 100C constantly
  • Longevity for 5+ years

Do we think AMD is gonna keep the aggressive holiday discounts or is Intel gonna try to buy back market share with some crazy doorbusters?

Ive been really satisfied with the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X 16-core 32-thread for my own video work and it stays way cooler than any equivalent Intel chips I tried. By late 2026, something like the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X 16-core 5.7GHz will likely be the sweet spot for that $500 budget if those holiday sales hit like they usually do. Intel might drop some crazy doorbusters to get people back on their new sockets, but their high-end stuff like the Intel Core i9-14900K 24-core 6.0GHz just runs too hot for my liking. If you want that 5-year longevity, AMD is just easier to live with daily. No complaints from me since I switched over. Let me know if you need any motherboard recs later!

Regarding what #1 said about "> Im looking to drop about $500 max...", I actually have to disagree a bit on the AMD-always-wins-value thing. Unfortunately, I've had some really annoying stability issues with recent Ryzen bios updates that made my sim racing rig crash mid-lap, which is just soul-crushing tbh. Intel usually gets aggressive with price cuts when they're trying to clear inventory, and for DaVinci Resolve, you really want that QuickSync support anyway. It saves so much time during 4K exports. By late 2026, the current high-end chips will be at floor prices.

  • look for deep discounts on Intel Core i7-14700K 20-core 5.6GHz
  • watch price trends on Intel Core i9-14900K 24-core 6.0GHz
  • dont ignore motherboard costs because thats where AMD usually sneaks in extra fees I spent way too much on a high-end board last year thinking I was being smart, but the total cost was way higher than expected. Kinda sucks.
