Ive been building rigs since the GTX 900 series so I usually know how the market moves but 2026 feels weird. Im planning an 8K editing build for my studio in Chicago late that year and need a flagship, probably the 6090 or whatever is top dog. My logic was to wait for Black Friday but I have a few worries:
I have a $1700 limit for the GPU alone. Do we think flagships will actually see real cuts or just the mid-range stuff? Its stressing me out because my project timeline is so strict...
tbh i think that $1700 budget might be a bit of a stretch for the absolute top dog in 2026. i remember being really happy when i finally got my NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 24GB GDDR6X and even then the holiday sales were basically non existent for it. retailers know the flagship cards sell themselves to pros... so they usually stick to discounting the mid range stuff to clear shelf space. i managed to stay under my budget last time by following a few simple tricks that worked well for me:
> I have a $1700 limit for the GPU alone. Honest truth? Flagships dont really get deep holiday cuts because demand stays high. If $1700 is a hard ceiling, you're probably better off looking for a clearance NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 32GB GDDR7 or the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 6080 16GB GDDR7. Retailers usually save the big Black Friday deals for mid-range stock that needs to move... top tier silicon stays pricey.
Like someone mentioned, flagships dont drop. My NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 24GB GDDR6X with its high TDP was unfortunately expensive. Tip: use business tax write-offs for that Chicago studio.
