So I am finally looking to upgrade my rig because my current setup is basically a dinosaur and struggles just to open Chrome these days lol. I am targeting late 2026 for the build because that is when my savings goal hits about 1500 quid and I want to snag everything during the Cyber Monday sales to maximize the value. I mainly do a lot of 4k video editing for my hobby channel and some gaming on the side like Tarkov or whatever is popular then.

Ive been doing some digging and I keep seeing conflicting stuff online. Some people on the tech forums are saying AMD usually slashes prices on their older stock like crazy once the new Zen chips launch so they are the better bet for deals. But then I saw this one tech analyst video saying Intel is planning a massive price war in 2026 to take back the market share they lost. It is honestly so confusing trying to predict this far out because I dont know if AMD will have already moved to a new socket by then or if Intel will be mid-cycle.

I really want to get the most cores for my money since editing is the priority but I dont want to overspend if one brand is notoriously cheaper during the holiday blitz. Based on how things have been going lately do you guys think Intel or AMD processors are gonna be cheaper during those 2026 Cyber Monday sales?

To add to the point above: AMDs AM5 longevity is amazing!!

  • Massive L3 cache
  • Superior multi-core efficiency Love how AMD Ryzen 9 9950X 16-Core 5.7GHz prices crater!

Predicting two years ahead is kinda a gamble but tech cycles are pretty predictable. Historically, AMD is the king of Cyber Monday because they slash prices on their older high-end chips to move inventory for the next gen. If you are looking for pure core count for 4K editing on a budget, AMD usually offers the best price-per-core ratio when they go on sale.

  • AMD deals: Youll likely find heavy discounts on things like the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X 16-Core 5.7GHz or whatever the 2025 equivalent is. AM5 motherboards also get significantly cheaper over time.
  • Intel bundles: Intel usually relies on bundle deals with motherboards. While an Intel Core i9-14900K 24-Core 6.0GHz is a beast for editing, Intel switches sockets often, so their older stuff doesnt always drop as hard in price compared to AMD.
  • Video editing perks: Keep in mind Intel has QuickSync which is a lifesaver for 4K timeline performance. Even if the chip costs a bit more, it might save you time. Honestly though, if you want the most cores for your money, AMD is almost always the winner during holiday sales. They just seem more willing to dump prices on their old flagships like the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X 16-Core 4.5GHz once the new shiny stuff is out. Just make sure to check the total platform cost because DDR5 and mobo prices can swing the math... it basically just comes down to whether you value raw core count over specific features like QuickSync.
