My current i5 is hitting these massive 100% spikes out of nowhere and Ive tried every fix in the book, been doing this since 2012 and never seen such a stubborn stutter. Im trying to decide if I should just suffer through it until Black Friday 2026 because the next-gen architecture rumors sound insane for value and I dont want to upgrade twice.
Is it crazy to wait almost two years just to avoid a dead-end socket or should I just bite the bullet now? Im so tired of this lag...
> Is it crazy to wait almost two years just to avoid a dead-end socket or should I just bite the bullet now? Im so tired of this lag... Man, waiting until 2026 is actually wild. I get the fear of a dead-end socket, but suffering through two more years of 100% CPU spikes sounds like a total nightmare. Honestly, life is too short for that kind of lag and the stuttering is just gonna get worse as newer games come out. Ngl, waiting that long is a recipe for burnout. Unfortunately, the current market is a bit of a mess right now. I was looking at the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 4.2GHz 8-Core AM5 Processor for a buddy recently, and the prices have shot up way more than expected. Its the absolute king for gaming because of that 3D V-Cache, but finding it for a decent price is getting harder lately, which sucks. If you can snag a Microcenter bundle tho, thats the play. The other option is the AMD Ryzen 5 7600X 4.7GHz 6-Core AM5 Processor. It fits your budget easily, but honestly, its not as good as expected for heavy 1440p gaming if you have a lot of stuff running in the background. Itll stop the stuttering for sure, but you might feel the itch to upgrade sooner than youd like. I also checked out the Intel Core i5-13600K 3.5GHz 14-Core LGA1700 Processor again. Its fast, but unfortunately, that socket is totally dead. Investing in it now feels like buying into a sunset platform, which is exactly what you wanted to avoid. Just jump on AM5 now and dont look back. Waiting for 2026 rumors is just gonna leave you disappointed when the launch inevitably gets delayed or prices are insane...
Just saw your post and honestly, dont wait! Since you live near a Microcenter, you can get an amazing deal right now. Their bundles are fantastic for value! Grab something like the AMD Ryzen 7 7700X 8-Core 16-Thread Processor today. AM5 is gonna be supported for ages anyway, so you arent stuck on a dead end socket at all. Itll make your 1440p gaming feel absolutely incredible again... those frame drops will be gone for good!
tbh it's super disappointing that mid-range chips have been such a mixed bag lately for frame consistency. honestly, waiting two years for a hypothetical fix is just gonna make you hate gaming. unfortunately, those i5 spikes usually mean the architecture is just tapped out and no amount of software fixes will help. you should check out the cpu tier list over at tom's hardware or the latest hardware unboxed benchmarks for 1440p frame times specifically.
