Ive been building my own rigs since the late 2000s so I usually have a handle on the Intel vs AMD pricing dance but this year feels totally off. Im looking to upgrade my workstation for some heavy ZBrush and rendering work by the end of November and my budget is strictly capped at $500 for the chip. Normally AMD is the king of price cuts once the new gen drops but Intel has been getting weirdly aggressive lately with the i9 price slashes. I really dont want to pull the trigger on a Ryzen 9 now if the i7 equivalent is gonna be half off in two weeks. Which brand is historically more likely to actually hit those deep 40-50% discounts for Cyber Monday this year?
