So I've been sitting on this EVGA 3060 Ti for like forever now and it is seriously starting to chug with some of the newer titles at 1440p. I tried playing that new open world game last night and my frame rates were all over the place even with DLSS on. I basically decided I'm gonna hold out until next year for the big upgrades since I'm trying to save up for a wedding in the spring so my budget is pretty tight right now maybe around $700 or $800 max for a GPU.
I've been looking at some of the price history trackers for when the 40-series was out and people on Reddit were saying the 4070 and 4070 Ti actually had some decent cuts once they'd been on the shelf for a year or so but then I read this other article on Tom's Hardware saying that Nvidia might keep the 50-series prices super high because of all the server demand taking up their manufacturing capacity. It's confusing because if the 5080 isn't selling that well you'd think they would slash prices but if they're barely making any then the supply stays low and the price stays high right? Plus I saw a video saying the 50-series might have a shorter lifecycle if they move to a new architecture faster so they might just let them go out of stock instead of discounting.
I'm really eyeing the 5080 or maybe a high end 5070 Ti if those are even a thing by then because I want to finally move to a 4K monitor and stop relying on upscaling so much. By the time Black Friday 2026 rolls around the 50-series will have been out for over a year and a half probably. Does anyone who follows the market closer than me think we'll see actual deep discounts on the mid-to-high end stuff or is it just gonna be like $50 off the MSRP like it usually is? I'm trying to figure out if I should just buy whatever is available next summer or if the wait for November will actually be worth it for someone with a strict $800 limit...
Building on the earlier suggestion, I'd suggest being pretty cautious about banking on a big 5080 price drop. Nvidia's usually stingy with flagship discounts. Since you have that 800 limit, maybe look at the MSI Gaming X Slim GeForce RTX 5070 Ti 16GB or a ZOTAC Gaming GeForce RTX 5070 Twin Edge 12GB instead. Waiting until late 2026 is a gamble since stock often dries up before a next-gen launch tho.
Be careful waiting for a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 16GB to hit $800. Id suggest hunting for the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 5070 12GB instead since mid-tier cards usually see better cuts.
I'm in the exact same spot trying to save cash. Just watch out for those fake 'original prices' on Black Friday, vendors love being misleading to make deals look better.
Honestly, waiting for 2026 is the way to go if you want that $800 to actually mean something! Skip the 5080 hype tho, that MSRP is gonna stay sky-high even on sale. For real reliability and the best bang for your buck, these are the ones I would keep an eye on:
Saved for later, ty!
