Ive been staring at my 2070 Super for way too long now and its starting to struggle with some of the newer titles I am trying to play. I really want to jump to the 50-series, specifically the 5080 if the specs are as good as the rumors say, but I am trying to be smart about the timing. Looking ahead to 2026 might seem crazy but I am a patient guy and I am trying to save up specifically for a big refresh of my entire rig.
I did some digging on some hardware forums and saw people saying that by late 2026 we might already be hearing rumors about the 60-series, which usually means the 50-series should see some deep cuts during the holiday sales. But then I read a few articles on sites like TechRadar saying Nvidia has been way more stingy with real discounts lately, especially with how they control the supply chain to keep prices from cratering. It makes me wonder if a Black Friday deal in 2026 is just going to be like 50 bucks off a 1000 dollar card which honestly isnt worth the two year wait from now. I am confused because some people say the mid-cycle refresh usually tanks the original prices but others say Nvidia just lets the stock run out without ever dropping the MSRP.
Heres what I am looking for:
Do you guys think the 5080 or even the 5070 Ti will actually get a meaningful discount by the time Black Friday 2026 rolls around? Or am I just wasting time waiting for a drop that wont happen because AI demand is keeping all the chips expensive? I keep hearing mixed things about whether the gaming market even matters to them as much anymore...
Ok adding this to my list of things to try. Thanks for the tip!
just saw this and honestly... waiting until late 2026 is risky. i love diving into the historical sales data and nvidia has basically perfected artificial scarcity to keep their margins high lately. my biggest warning is dont get caught in the end-of-life cycle trap. usually by the time black friday 2026 rolls around, they have already slowed down production of the high-end 50-series chips to make room for the 60-series. you end up seeing sales that are just the original msrp while the cards actually disappear from shelves. i am pretty satisfied with how the power efficiency rumors are looking, but i wouldnt bank on a 5080 being under 900 bucks unless its a lucky open-box find at your micro center. also watch out for those fake black friday deals where retailers hike the price in october just to discount it back to normal in november. it happens way more than people think and its a huge trap for patient buyers who dont track price history daily... honestly i think you are better off jumping in when you see a legitimate 10 percent drop rather than waiting for a miracle that wont happen because of silicon wafer costs.
