Should I wait for 2026 Black Friday to buy a gaming CPU?

Ive been building my own rigs since the DDR3 era but I'm stuck on this upgrade path. My current 5800X is stuttering like crazy in these new unoptimized titles and I have a huge streaming marathon starting in a few months so I need stability. Everyone says wait for the 2026 Black Friday sales for the next massive jump in IPC but thats so far away.

  • budget: around 500 bucks
  • use case: 4K ultra gaming + 1440p streaming
  • preference: staying on AM5 if possible

Is it actually worth waiting over a year for those 2026 discounts or should I just grab a 9000 series chip now and be done with it... I'm worried about buyers remorse if 2026 is a total game changer.

Unfortunately the 9000 series was pretty underwhelming. Are you counting motherboard costs in that 500 dollar budget?

  • grab the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 8-Core 4.2GHz for 450ish
  • dont wait until 2026

Waiting until late 2026 is way too long if your current rig is struggling. Unfortunately, the newest chips arent as big of a leap as we expected, which is disappointing for those of us wanting a real performance jump. Since the 5800X is actually an AM4 chip, I gotta ask:

  • are you planning to buy a new motherboard and DDR5 ram too?
  • what kind of cooling setup are you running right now?
