So basically my brother showed me some videos of these crazy looking games and now I really want to build my own pc even though I literally dont know what a motherboard does lol. I've been saving up like crazy from my job at the coffee shop here in Portland and I think by the end of next year I'll have about $2700 tucked away. I really want one of those top tier graphics cards like the ones they call the 90 series? I think? I'm sorry if this is super basic but I'm just so lost with all the numbers and letters they use. I was looking at some calendars and stuff and noticed people talk about these huge sales in November so I'm aiming for November 2026 to finally buy everything because that's right around my 21st birthday and I want to treat myself to the best setup possible.
Right now the high end stuff is like $1600 or more which is basically my whole budget almost so I'm really banking on a big price drop. I keep hearing rumors about new versions coming out every two years so maybe the 2024 or 2025 ones will be super cheap by late 2026? I just want to play games in 4k and have everything look like a movie. I'm just worried I'll wait all that time and the prices will stay the same or go up because of some weird tech thing I don't understand yet. I'm just so pumped to finally have a real gaming rig instead of this old laptop that sounds like a jet engine whenever I open Minecraft.
My list of stuff I think I need:
- the biggest gpu I can find
- a screen that is super clear
- those colorful lights for the box
- a lot of memory
Does anyone know if those really expensive high-end GPUs are actually gonna see some major price drops by November 2026 or is that just wishful thinking on my part? Like will the older ones get way cheaper when the new ones come out or do they just stay expensive forever...

I'm quite satisfied with how my 4k setup turned out. Quick question tho, is that $2700 for the tower alone or does that include the monitor?

Hey, just saw this thread while scrolling. Saving up $2700 from a coffee shop gig is actually insane, portland coffee culture is no joke lol. I would suggest being pretty careful about banking on those 90 series cards dropping in price tho. Usually, companies just stop making them right before the next gen launches so they never really hit a clearance price. They kind of just disappear or stay super expensive on the used market. If you spend $1800 on just a gpu, you're gonna have a really tough time fitting the rest of the high-end stuff in your budget. A super clear screen for 4k, especially if you want a nice oled like the ASUS ROG Swift OLED PG32UCDM 32-inch 4K, is gonna cost you a massive chunk of change by itself. I might want to consider looking at the 80 series tier instead. Something like the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 Super 16GB GDDR6X (or whatever the 2026 version is) usually hits that sweet spot where you can still afford a fast cpu and all the rgb lights you want. Tbh its way better to have a balanced build that actually looks like a movie on a nice screen than a monster card paired with a cheap monitor. Dont forget a big power supply too, maybe something like the Corsair RM1000e 1000W 80 Plus Gold. High end parts are thirsty...

Unfortunately, the high-end market is pretty brutal and prices rarely drop like you'd hope. Companies usually EOL flagship cards like the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 24GB GDDR6X right before a new launch to prevent clearance sales. It sucks, but top-tier silicon holds value way too well. You'll likely see better performance per dollar from something like a ASUS ROG Strix RTX 4080 Super 16GB by then instead.
